What is Provider type?

In short

Provider type says whether a company underwrites the risk itself, sells cover for others, or just compares.

Provider type tells you who actually carries the risk behind a product. An insurer underwrites it and pays your claim, a broker sells policies from other providers and does not carry the risk itself, and a comparison site does not sell cover at all, it points you at providers that do.

The examples here cover all three. 10Life is a comparison site. 1Cover and 1st Insurance are insurers, so they carry the risk. 123Seguro and 24ins.bg are brokers, which means their cover comes from other providers. This distinction matters at claim time, because an insurer answers for its own policies and a broker routes yours elsewhere.
